Ogaitnas: I'm curious why you say "Smoking fireworks is better for your health." I thought about this for a while and my guess is that fireworks are beautiful to look at, so if you smoke them, at least you can admire the colors. Of course, I wouldn't smoke fireworks in real life, but I'm trying to think like a poet right now. Anyway . . . your art still inspires me. I like your style :)

I like my Tim Burton portrait a lot. It’s the best I’ve done in my tween years, and I could add shadows and facial dimensions too if I wished.

Another student did a portrait of Walt Disney and even though the other students portrait came out looking fine for beginners in Miss Debbie’s class, this person’s interpretation of Disney looked nothing at all like him. Instead in looked like José Carrera, the middle singer of the Three Tenors, went outside and got a sun tan. They even forgot to add the mustache.

I did another portrait like this one of César Chavez in my freshman year of high school for my humanities teacher Jennie Ganeson in a different medium. Woven string art on wooden panels. The other students did the same, for the topic was social activists and we even visited Chicano Park near Barrio Logan where Chunky’s legacy has been immortalized. Another classmate of mine Eric did Chunky’s portrait and Nicolette Peji whom I’ve known for quite some time did Frida Kahlo’s portrait.

This year in college I have taken Freehand Drawing classes with my teacher Wayne Hulgin whom I’ve taken classes with before during workshops at City College when I was in high school. I am also learning figure drawing from Watts Atelier which is an online drawing program that teaches figure drawing lecture videos from Jeff Watts and his students. Jeff Watts has his own art studio exhibiting artwork that anyone would want to buy, and that’s what I plan to do. I would say I’ve come a long way by now and my mom is building a website for me on Wix.com to get my artwork out to the public so that it can be sold for auction and I can make my own dinero in return. I am excited for the opportunities that await me! I’ll be kissing that dollar sign. 💸
