On Saturday I went with my friend Alessandra who is an artist like me to the Timken Art Museum in Balboa Park. Together we drew the work of great painters. I learned that it's a good idea to try to copy the work of artists in museums when you are learning to draw.

Alexander "Sandy" Calder on my mind

In 4th grade we are studying Alexander Calder who is amazing. Here I am drawing his work at the gallery in Washington D.C. Today I created a movie about him for Art Night at my school and did you know he made a circus with cork, scraps of wood and paper, wire, buttons and a pair of pliers? He carried it back and forth in these cool suitcases from Paris to New York. I made these drawings of his mobiles and wire sculptures.

Hike to Iron Mountain

On Sunday I went with Dad and Mom on a 6 mile hike up Iron Mountain. It's the longest trail in the county and is for intermediate hikers. It was really tough and far but we made it to the summit and had a snack while we watched hawks and crows soaring around.

Art Ships

Please click here to check out this new you-tube video.
My mom put it together to show a great workshop we did with our amazing art teacher Ms. Bell at the San Diego Cooperative Charter School. We used scratchboard to create art ships and covered our frames in sea shells. May 24, 2012 is Art Night at our school and you have to see all the art and music we know how to make. Special thanks to my friends at Video Concepts who shot the film and my Uncle Gil Gutierrez who made the music in this video.

Spring Contour Drawings

It's a new year and I'm ten.
Here is a still life of Spring plants I drew at school.

The next two contour drawings are scenes from the loft we live in. You have to look closely and draw what you see. What's fun about drawing is that in the last one I added some dramatic action. I wondered what it would be like if I could blast a window in the wall-and there it is!
